Lilja Tamminen, Director of Automotive Technologies, gets contacted constantly.
“Most of it is noise. Generic services. Bodies for hire. It rarely solves the actual problem.”
Basemark builds real-time systems and applications for in-vehicle computers – in other words, deeply technical and safety-critical software for autonomous driving systems. The company was preparing for a major project with a leading European OEM, and Tamminen was creating the resourcing plan.
When an outreach from Allies came through, her first instinct was to archive it. But the timing happened to match – and the intro call struck a different chord.
“The Allies team immediately got it. They weren’t just trying to push talent. They understood the real challenge: finding people who are not only technically capable, but can work independently, think structurally, and deliver.”
Tamminen made one thing clear from the start: this wasn’t a typical web dev hire. Basemark needed C++ experts who could navigate a complex middleware environment for autonomous platforms. The bar was high.
“My ideal was this: when you send me a profile, most of the filtering is already done. Allies clearly had someone CTO-level in the loop. It showed.”
Instead of flooding her inbox with half-fit resumes, Allies built a selective team from Eastern Europe – one developer at a time. Today, the structured hub consisting of multiple consultants from Allies is embedded in the project.
“We’d happily hire more – but we staff based on real customer need.”
In Tamminen’s words, the biggest value was simple: they saved her time.
“I don’t want to waste my team’s hours screening weak profiles. Allies offloaded that work from my shoulders. Without them, we’d have spent months just assembling the right pool.”
Tamminen also valued the cultural fit. Allies chose to focus on building the hub in Eastern Europe – not India or Egypt – for a reason.
“With Eastern Europe, communication is easy. It aligns well with business cultures in the US, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, and Norway. I don’t need someone translating the local culture into our workflow. Things just work.”
Communication with Allies’ leadership was smooth throughout.
“Working with the team was clear, efficient and outcome-driven.”
Allies didn’t just help with staffing. They built a long-term Hub structure that Basemark can insource over time – if and when needed. This opens future strategic options in new markets.
“They weren’t selling hours. They solved the problem.”
